The third grand slam of the tennis calendar is officially in the books!

The 2023 Wimbledon Championships wrapped up on Sunday, as world no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz completed an incredible five-set victory over 23-time slam champion Novak Djokovic.

Meanwhile, Czechia’s Marketa Vondrousova became the first unseeded women’s player to ever win a Wimbledon singles title, defeating Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 for her maiden major.

On this week’s episode, content creator extraordinaire Bastien Fachan joins host Ben Lewis to discuss all the action that unfolded, including Alcaraz’s incredible moment.

“I was stunned by his composure and the way he handled that final throughout,” said Fachan. “I think he’s going to win double-digit Grand Slams.”

Alcaraz retains his world number one ranking with the result and will soon be in Toronto next month.

Vondrousova, who entered Wimbledon ranked 42nd, came away with a shock title.

“It was a lesson for everyone, me included, not to underrate anyone,” says Fachan. “She’s not a classic unseeded player though. She made the French Open final in 2019, she won a silver medal in Tokyo.”

Fachan was also encouraged by the results of Canadians Bianca Andreescu and Leylah Fernandez.

Andreescu lost a tough three-set match to Ons Jabeur in the third round, while Fernandez exited to fifth-ranked Caroline Garcia in the second round.

We also discuss some of our favourite storylines through the tournament, including former world no. 3 Elina Svitolina’s incredible run to the semifinals post-pregnancy, and American Christopher Eubanks’ emergence as a grasscourt contender.
