This week, Mike is joined by none other than Canadian star doubles player Sharon Fichman who shares that she is nearing her return to the WTA Tour after battling injuries over the past 18 months. The last tournament she played was the WTA Finals in 2021, a year that saw her ranking soar to a career-high No. 21 in the world.
Fichman details her time away from the court which included a return to the broadcast booth where she recently covered Team Canada presented by Sobeys’ win over Belgium in Billie Jean King Cup action. She’s also been involved in some coaching opportunities and definitely sees that as a future possibility once she hangs up her racquet for good.
Ben and Mike then discuss all the latest clay court action in Europe including the return of Bianca Andreescu following the ankle injury she sustained just a month ago in Miami.
Genie Bouchard is also raising her level in just her third tournament back since the Aussie Open and got her first WTA 1000 win on clay since 2017 this past week in Madrid.
On the men’s side, it was a tough event for Felix Auger Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov who both went out early, but there’s still time to fine-tune their games for Roland-Garros later this month.
