Biography
Andrée Martin was ranked in the Top 10 women in Canada for 12 consecutive years, including No. 1 in 1970, No. 3 (1967, 1972-1975), No. 4 (1976), No. 2 (1969, 1971), No. 9 (1965), and No. 6 (1966).
She was selected for Fed Cup for the first time in 1968 as the team faced off against South Africa in Paris, France, but lost 3-0. The first time Martin competed on the team was in 1969 as Canada took on Hungary and won 3-0. Martin grabbed the first point for Canada as she defeated K. Burka 3-6, 7-5, 11-9. In 1970, the team defeated Norway 3-0. This time Martin competed in both singles and doubles (paired with Jane O’Hara) and Martin won both matches. The last year Martin was on the team, in 1975 She competed as the playing captain, but unfortunately the team lost to Japan 2-1.
Martin also competed in the Canadian Open Championship winning the Open Mixed Doubles in 1969, Closed Singles in 1970 and the Closed Women’s Doubles in 1970, 1971 and 1972.
Martin is currently on the Board of Directors for Tennis Canada.
