Players at the World Tennis Masters Tour MT200 Gatineau event at the Club de tennis de Hull

Three ITF Masters Tour events have taken place on Canadian soil over the past month, with the host nation’s players taking full advantage of their home court. Let’s catch up with the Canadian tennis players competing on the ITF Masters Tour in the monthly update by Abrysvo.    

MT400 London

The Canadian contingent dominated the field at the London Hunt Club Championships, taking 15 of the 17 singles events on the clay in London, Ont.

Five Canadian men took home multiple titles. Adam Baranowski (Singles 45+, Doubles 35+), Grant Cartland (55+ Singles, Doubles), Christian Laurin (60+ Singles, 55+ Doubles), Brian Millar (70+ Singles, Doubles), and Peter Gonda (75+ Singles, Doubles) all took home a singles and doubled hardware in London.

Laurin also took home the 60+ singles title at the MT1000 Mont-Tremblant last month.

Two Canadian women also won multiple titles with Liane Marr (45+ Singles, 40+ Doubles) and Christa Cameron (70+ Singles, 60+ Doubles) scoring multiple wins.

MT200 Gatineau

The hard courts at the Club de Tennis de Hull in Gatineau, Que. played host to an MT200 event from July 10-14. Canadians once again dominated the table, winning all but one singles event over the course of the week.

On the men’s side, Cameron Montgomery took home the title in both the singles and doubles of the 50+ age group, alongside partner Javier Ruano Valdez. Giovanni Savone also took home a pair of titles in the 60+ age group, winning the singles championship and the doubles with partner Bernard Auger.

American Sofia Denoncourt took home a pair of titles in different groups in Gatineau, winning the 60+ singles event while also winning the 40+ doubles draw with Canadian partner Marie-pier Nassif.

MT700 Mississauga

Mississauga held a clay-court tournament from Aug. 1-5 at the Credit Valley Tennis Club. 

Stanislav Nevolovich won the 40+ men’s singles event, adding to his hardware this month after winning the same event in London. Taylor Ferrier also took home a second ITF Masters Tour win this month, taking home the 35+ men’s singles event after winning the 30+ event in Gatineau. Adam Baranowski took home his second 45+ singles title of the month, emerging victorious after winning in London.

Several players took home multiple titles in Mississauga, including Lianne Marr (45+ Singles, 40+ Doubles), Brian Millar (75+ Singles and Doubles), Annie Hill (75+ Singles, 70+ Doubles), and Jeanie MacEachern (65+ Singles and Doubles).

Ukraine’s Olga Tsymbal also won two events at the tournament, the 40+ Doubles and 50+ Singles. She was not the only international player to win a title, as Latvian Elina Mase won the 40+ singles event.
